The excitement is building for Hillary

Greetings! So here I am, in my seat, listening to speakers in preparation for Hillary's prime time address. The topic of discussion all day has been the Hillary supporters and whether or not they will get behind Obama. My standard answer has been, yes, after they get the chance to honor her tonight and represent those voters they were elected to represent. Its all a matter of respect. Respect for her as a candidate, respect for those who supported her and respect for the process of her name being placed into nomination. Its funny, now, now those Obama supporters are coming around and realizing that if we are to truly unite as a party, that they have to show respect to the Hillary supporters. In my opinion, they should have started that process two months ago. If they had done that, this all wouldn't be an issue. Ah well. Unity will truly start on Thursday.

Hillary's day today at the convention

Greetings, everyone! Today will be a very busy day for me. I am attending the national Latino Leaders Luncheon honoring former Denver Mayor Federico Pena. This ought to be great event! Planned speakers include Governor Bill RIchardson of New Mexico, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and many other national leaders within the Hispanic community.

One of my goals from this convention is to better understand what we as Hispanics must do to gain a stronger voice in our community. I am looking forward to bringing back to the 1st CD these ideas and helping empower our local Hispanic community. As a man of Hispanic heritage, I am feeling so proud of what we are doing here.

Then, this evening at the convention, Senator Hillary Clinton will speak. I'll be bringing my computer to the event and plan to live blog the event.

Afternoon break

So, I've made it back to the hotel room for a quick freshen up before going to the Pepsi Center and the convention events for Monday evening. President Jimmy Carter and Senator Ted Kennedy are speaking with the keynote speech given by Michelle Obama. This should be an good evening.

I'll say one thing. The altitude is kicking my behind. As someone who grew up in the Rocky Mountain region, I thought I would be fine with the lack of oxygen a mile up. I was wrong. I'm tired already and its only Monday! A vendor was selling cans of oxygen, believe it or not. I am seriously considering buying one.

Monday Morning in Denver

We got up early (way too early after last night), and met the rest of the Oregon delegation for breakfast. Governor Howard Dean, the head of the Democratic Party, spoke to the assembled crowd and got us all fired up! Then, Senator Ron Wyden spoke. He brought his new set of twins with him. I was sitting one table away from him and ended up playing with his son, and showing Senator Wyden a photo of my daughter Emma. It was funny, here I was with a Senator and we were both just proud daddies. :)

I'll be attending the Hispanic Caucus meeting and then from there, to be honest, I'm not sure. I'll submit another post later today.

On my way to Denver!

So, I'm on the plane to Denver, finally off to the convention. I'll have to admit, I've been high hopes about this trip from a political and historical perspective. Its just not every day that a person gets to go to a national political convention, let alone one with the ramifications as profound as this election cycle. After seven years in the political wilderness, Democrats are seizing this opportunity to reclaim power and re-establish their values on the country. And people are excited! They are hungry for positive change. This convention should act as the catalyst for the Democrats to go into the fall campaign with enthusiasm and, dare I say it, hope.

This is my first national convention and I an savoring every moment of this trip, I probably went into overkill as far as documenting this trip for posterity. I brought my digital camera, my hand-held audio recorder (for interviews and podcasts) and my brand new video camera. I'm hoping to go through the learning curve of the video camera quickly as I plan on uploading videos to my blog for all to see, which ought to be interesting.

Sunday is the slowest day of this trip in that I only have three events planned today and the first one doesn't start until 3, giving me time to get set up at the hotel and to get my bearings. All three events are welcoming parties for delegates, which basically means free food. WhooHoo! I have to admit that form a budget standpoint, I am relying on the free eats for delegates to help conserve costs. Ah, one of the benefits of being a delegate.

I will share with readers more as the week progresses. This ought to be great fun!
